A training session in Kye Bay. Canadian Forces CH-149 Cormorant, a long-range helicopter used in search and rescue operations hovers , then lands, on the still submerged sand of Kye Bay.
The Cormorant can operate in severe conditions, carry up to 12 stretchers, or 5000 kilos. It’ss advanced systems provide a stable hover for critical hoisting operations. It has helped rescue mountain climbers, lost hikers, shipcrews and more.
The 19 Wing is home to 19 Air Maintenance Squadron and a national training school—the Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue (CFSSAR). 19 Wing also supports cadet training at the Regional Cadet Gliding School (Pacific) and HMCS Quadra sea cadet camp.
